Mercury House Seychelles is an entertainment space in a re-formed nineteenth century building on the island.

I worked in collaboration with Architectural practice Studio Ageli on the development, creating a concept and visual language that reflects the use of the space through an abstraction of a playing card graphic motif combined with the local design detail of the ubiquitous air bricks seen on the island including on the building itself. In practicality, these motifs were hand painted by local artists using guides and stencils we provided.

As well as the creative direction of the space, I worked on various detailed design, technical delivery and architectural problem solving, alongside the lead architect, allowing us to look for ways to work the visual language in to physical details such as door handles and balustrades, in ways that were much more subtle and unexpected.

The venture was a success and the architecture and creative style was seen as a part of that, so a few years later its annexing building was commissioned to have its own take on the same design language.
